No. You will be responsible for providing meals and daily living expenses for your exchange student. They will be instructed to bring their own money for souvenirs. Mesa Sister Cities will pay for the group outings.
Who will my child be staying with?
A host family. Each host family goes through a background check to assure every childs safety.
Do we get to pick the country?
The application asks that you select a 1st and 2nd choice and we will do our best to accommodate those requests but there is no guarantee.
How long is the exchange?
Mesa Youth Ambassadors will spend 3 weeks abroad and will then will host international students for 3 weeks.
How much does it cost?
There is a $700 program fee and the participants are required to pay for ½ of their airfare.
What is the expected commitment?
Once selected for the program, there will be some community service and fundraising requirements. We expect the students to participate in the planned activities while the international students are here. After the program ends we ask that you help promote the program for the following year.
How will I communicate with my child while he’s abroad?
Our Youth Ambassador Chairperson will be in contact with the students as well as the Coordinator in each of our Sister Cities. You can contact the Youth Ambassador Chair anytime.
Will I be safe? (Will my child be safe?)
Our program would not be possible without good safety practices. Student Ambassadors always travel accompanied by adults, and at each destination, adult members of our partner sister city associations are there to make sure things go smoothly.
The preparation for travel will include opportunities for asking questions and getting answers so that you feel confident that every precaution is taken.
